Special Guests Join Classes for Read Across FGL Day
With Read Across America Day falling on March 2, staff from around the Hendrick Hudson School District joined students at Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School on Monday, March 4 for a special event. The staff members served as guest readers on Read Across FGL Day — and the list of visitors even included principals and administrators from outside the building.
Each guest reader was assigned a class and selected a book to read in that classroom. The guests included principals Lauren Scollins (HHHS) and Josh Cohen (FWS); Dr. Margaret Ruller, the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Pupil Personnel Services director Lisa Schuchman and assistant directors Ellen Garguilo and Christopher Moreno; and Elizabeth Gilleo, the district’s Supervisor of Transportation.
Teachers and teaching assistants from FGL also participated.
“I had a wonderful experience reading ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt to Ms. Ribeiro’s first-grade class,” said Cohen, who dressed in his pajamas for the occasion. “The class was well-behaved. Students listened well and had great feedback to share. Thanks to Dr. Kramer for inviting me to this special event. It was a great way to bring our Hen Hud community together around an important topic like literacy.”
FGL’s principal, Dr. Cynthia Kramer, said the guest readers were part of a day devoted to reading.
“Throughout the day, classes engaged in a variety of activities to celebrate reading,” Dr. Kramer said. “We always have Pajama Day on Read Across FGL Day, so we are ready to curl up with a good book at any time!”
